Prescription motorcycle glasses

Choosing the right glasses for motorcycling

Just like driving a car, riding a motorbike requires sharp, precise vision.
Corrective eyewear is therefore a must for safe motorcycling.
Here are the main criteria for choosing the right pair of glasses for motorcycling, and how to combine them with a motorbike helmet.

Selecting the right motorcycle prescription lenses

A good pair of motorcycling glasses should be fitted with lenses that meet a number of essential criteria.
First of all, for perfect vision, the lenses must provide the exact visual correction that the biker needs.
The same lenses should preferably be fitted with a polarising or anti-reflective filter to cope with any glare on the road.
In fact, motorcycle glasses should ideally be fitted with photochromic lenses.
Indeed, this type of lens automatically adjusts to changes in light levels as you ride.
What's more, because motorcycling is a sport, the prescription lenses need to be lightweight and impact resistant.

The right motorcycle prescription glass frame

For motorcycling, you can wear your own glasses under your helmet or opt for a pair specifically designed for motorcycling.
Whatever your choice, the frame, just like the lenses, must meet a number of criteria.
First and foremost, it should be as light as possible so it doesn't get in the way while you're riding.
From the same point of view, the frame also needs to fit snugly around your face so it doesn't slip or move while you're riding.
It should also be flexible enough and not too wide to fit easily under a motorcycle helmet.

Motorcycle helmet and prescription glasses: two essential items

Riding a motorbike requires prescription glasses for optimum vision, as well as a motorbike helmet for safety.
That's why it's important to choose both items carefully to ensure that they work well together.
For example, spectacle wearers should opt for a half-helmet rather than a full-face helmet.
As a matter of fact, the latter can put pressure on your glasses, causing discomfort.
If you already have a motorcycle helmet, be sure to try on your new glasses underneath it to test your comfort.
