Blue light glasses or contact lenses?

Blue-light blocking contact lenses or blue light glasses?

It's essential to protect the eyes as much as possible from the blue light emitted by screens, especially for people who are highly exposed to it.
A number of different solutions exist to filter out the harmful rays of this specific luminosity.
People can choose between wearing anti-blue light glasses or blue-light blocking contact lenses.

Pros and cons of blue-light eyeglasses

Most people who want to protect their eyes from blue light opt for a pair of glasses.
First of all, they can add an anti-blue light filter to the lenses of their prescription glasses.
Alternatively, they can opt for a pair of glasses specifically designed to combat this type of radiation.
This pair of glasses can be adapted to your correction by your optician on presentation of your prescription.
Blue-light glasses can also be worn over your corrective contact lenses.
The advantage of blue-light-proof glasses is that they can only be worn when you need them.
Their main disadvantage compared with contact lenses is their lack of discretion.

Pros and cons of blue-light contact lenses

First of all, it's important to bear in mind that contact lenses correct vision just as well as eyeglasses.
In the same way, contact lenses with a blue-light filter are just as effective at protecting your eyes as blue-light glasses.
These contacts can be worn indoors in front of screens or outdoors, where most models will also protect against UV rays.
What's more, contact lenses that block blue-violet rays have the added advantage of being discreet.
In fact, unlike eyeglasses, they can go unnoticed, especially at work.
However, adopting this type of contact lens requires you to change your usual contact lenses.
This is in contrast to blue-light glasses, which can be worn over your contact lenses when you are in front of screens.
What's more, they require more complex and rigourous care than blue-light filtering glasses.
It is therefore advisable to seek advice from your Optical Center optician before choosing between blue light glasses or contact lenses.
