How to choose your kid's sunglasses

Finding the right pair of sunglasses for your child

Sunglasses are not just a fashion accessory and prove to be essential to protect a child's eyes.
Indeed, a kid's eyes are even more fragile than an adult's and require optimal sun protection.
So here's how to make sure you choose the right sunglasses for your child.

A high level of sun protection first

When selecting sunglasses for your kid, the most important thing to check is their sun protection power.
Children's sunglasses must have lenses that filter out all UVA and UVB rays.
This 100% sun protection is absolutely essential to protect the child's fragile eyes.
To achieve this, the kid's sunglasses must have at least category 3 lenses.
If this category of protection is sufficient in town, category 4 should be preferred for the beach or the mountains.

Go for the unbreakable

As a general rule, a child tends to be more restless and energetic than an adult.
Consequently, it is wise to equip them with a pair of sunglasses that are resistant, both in terms of their lenses and their frame.
Thus, the lenses of the sunglasses should preferably be chosen with an anti-shock and an anti-scratch treatment.
The sunglasses frame for a child under the age of six can also be fitted with flexible temples.
Past that age, the choice should be made for a semi-rigid frame that is both flexible and comfortable.
The more sporty kids can also be fitted with an elastic headband to keep the frame in place.
Finally, to ensure that your kid's sunglasses stay in good condition, make sure they are always stored in their case.

The importance of a wrap-around sunglasses frame

As with adults, the frame of a kid's sunglasses must be adapted to the child's facial morphology.
And yet, children have a very specific morphology, generally characterised by a wide forehead, a small nose and rounded cheeks.
Therefore, to fit well, the frame of the sunglasses must match this profile by being quite enveloping.
The lenses should also rise high, above the eyebrows, in order to cover the entire visual field.
