A pair of glasses should always be handled with care to be best preserved.
However, it can nevertheless happen that a part of the frame breaks.
Here are the solutions available to you, if necessary, to repair your eyewear frame.
A wrong move or a bad fall and the frame of your glasses breaks.
An easy way can help you fix this problem very quickly, so you can keep wearing them, especially if you don't have a spare pair.
Most of the time, it's the central bridge of the frame that breaks and the pair of glasses is then split in two pieces.
In this case, you can fix the damage by gluing the two parts together.
Before gluing, be sure to protect the other parts of the frame, especially the lenses.
The strong glue must be applied on both parts which must then be held together for at least one or two minutes.
Afterwards, it is advisable to wait half an hour for the glue to do its work before putting the glasses back on.
In metal frames, temples are attached with screws.
It may happen that the screw begins to loosen or falls out.
If the screw is still there or you have seen it fall out, the only thing to do is to screw it back in properly.
Repair becomes more difficult when the screw is lost.
In this case, you can try replacing it with a toothpick or a wire.
If it does not work, an eyeglass repair kit can be purchased in which a spare screw is provided.
Most nose pads are attached with screws and sometimes the screw can loosen.
If so, just screw the nose pad back on.
It is strongly recommended to use a screwdriver specially dedicated to glasses.
This kind of tool can be found in eyeglass repair kits.
If the nose pad is broken or the small screw is lost, it will then have to be replaced.
An home-made repair can only be a temporary emergency solution.
Indeed, this kind of fixing is often a little fragile and therefore doesn't last long.
These solutions are thus only valid in the short-term, when you do not have a spare pair or while waiting to receive the new one.
As a matter of fact, the best response when your glasses break is to take them back to your optician.
The latter is able to fix them professionally.
When the repair is too complex or impossible, a renewal of the pair is then suggested.
