How do contact lenses work ?

Everything you need to know about how contact lenses work

More and more people are turning to wearing contact lenses as a replacement for their eyeglasses.
However, some people may wonder how these small elements on the eye surface can correct vision.
Here is some basic information on how contact lenses function and how they work in everyday life.

How contact lenses correct vision

It is hard to believe that these small, rounded lenses placed directly on the eye can perform the same function as eyeglasses.
However, contact lenses can, in fact, correct almost all visual problems in the same way as glasses.
Like the latter, an eye test and a medical prescription are required for them to be issued by the optician.
The visual correction is achieved by modifying the trajectory of the light entering the eye.
Depending on the specific visual impairment, the lens will correct the poor light refraction by redirecting the rays behind or in front of the retina.
The contact lens will therefore not have the same curvature depending on the visual impairment to be corrected, such as myopia or astigmatism.
This is why there are different types of contact lenses, including toric and spherical ones.
Depending on the visual disorder, they will not have the same strength and corrective power either.
Since the lens is placed directly on the eye, it follows its movements and therefore allows for correction of the entire visual area.
In order to be effective, contact lenses must be specifically designed according to the visual data provided by the vision exam.

How to use contact lenses on a daily basis

First of all, it should be remembered that contact lenses are small and fragile items of equipment that need to be properly cared for.
Therefore, in everyday life, you should take care to handle them gently, whether you are putting them in or removing them.
Contact lenses must be handled according to a well-established process and under impeccable hygiene conditions.
Then, depending on your level of habituation, the visual devices should be worn for a maximum of eight to twelve hours per day.
It is also important to remember to always remove your contact lenses before going to sleep.
Once removed, they must be kept in their case, respecting the respective left and right sides.
There, the lenses are bathed in a care solution which allows them to be cleaned and preserved in the best possible way.
Finally, it is important not to forget to renew them according to their type, either daily, monthly or annually.
These rigorous operations generally become a routine that can easily be applied on a daily basis.
