How to measure sunglasses size

Sunglasses size: A key to the perfect pair

Selecting the ideal pair of sunglasses for you is a complicated task, as there are so many criteria to take into account.
However, it's essential that they fit perfectly on your face, so that wearing them is both comfortable and aesthetically pleasing.
Here's how to determine the size of sunglasses you need.

Measuring your facial dimensions

Facial morphology is a key element to consider when choosing a pair of sunglasses.
The shape of the frame must harmonise with the shape of the face to create a good balance.
A person's face can either be round, square, triangular, oblong or oval.
To determine the exact shape of your face, you need to take a few measurements.
First, use a ruler placed at the top of your cheekbones to measure the distance between your left and right temples.
Next, a flexible tape measure should be used to measure from the bottom of one ear to the other, passing under the jaw.
The width and length of your face will then be measured using a ruler or a tape measure, going from one end to the other.
It is advisable to measure the width of your face by placing the ruler at forehead level.
All these measurements will give you a precise idea of your facial morphology.

Choosing the right size of sunglasses

Once the shape of your face has been determined, the size of the sunglasses frame can be chosen more easily.
There are several different sizes of sunglasses on the market, from standard to the largest and smallest models.
The dimensions of a pair of sunglasses are generally given in millimetres.
These specific sizes are usually noted on the inner face of one of the temples.
By the way, you can refer to the dimensions noted on your old pair to request the same for your new one.
The annotated dimensions are the height, width and length of the frame.
For each facial dimension, there is a corresponding size of sunglasses.
Correspondence tables can be consulted online, but to be on the safe side, it is advisable to consult your optician.
The latter will be able to guide you towards the sunglasses size that best suits you.
Finally, to find out which size sunglasses are right for you, there's the simple trick of using a credit card.
Simply place a credit card vertically under your eyebrow at the bridge of your nose.
If the bottom end of the card comes down under your eye, then a small size of sunglasses will suit you.
If the card ends above your eye, then a large size of sunglasses is recommended.
Standard sunglasses will suit people who see their eye aligned with the bottom of the credit card.
