How to remove scratches from sunglasses

Get scratches out of sunglasses

In good weather and throughout the year, our pair of sunglasses usually follow us everywhere.
As a result, sunglasses can sometimes get damaged, such as when the lenses are scratched.
Here's how you can remove small scratches on your sunglasses to ensure that your vision is always clear.

Home tips for removing scratches from sunglasses

When small scratches have appeared on the lenses of your sunglasses, a few simple techniques can be used to remove them.
Whatever the trick used, the first thing to do beforehand is to clean the lenses thoroughly with a microfiber cloth or soapy water.

The toothpaste tip

Surprisingly, toothpaste can be used to remove minor scratches from the lenses of your sunglasses.
To do this, a small amount of toothpaste on a clean cloth is spread in a circular pattern over the glass surface and rubbed onto the scratches.
The sunglasses are then cleaned with clear water and dried with a microfibre cloth.
The same process can be carried out with sun cream or car wax.

The use of white vinegar

Now part of the household set in many homes, white vinegar can also be effective against scratches on sunglasses.
To this end, make a mixture of half white vinegar and the other half water to soak a clean cloth in.
The cloth should then be run in a circular pattern over the lenses, which will later be rinsed with clear water and dried with a microfibre cloth.
The process can be repeated several times if the light scratches have not yet disappeared.

Using baking soda

To remove light scratches from your sunglasses, baking soda can also be useful.
In a bowl, creat a thick paste by mixing two-thirds baking soda and one-third water.
The paste should then be placed on a cotton wool pad and rubbed over the scratches in a circular motion.
The sunglasses are then rinsed with clean water and dried with a microfiber cloth.

Take your sunglasses to the optician

If the scratches on the sunglasses are too big or if none of the above tips are successful, then it is advisable to visit your optician.
This solution is all the more safer as some home products can be potentially dangerous as they can alter the anti-UV protective film of the lenses.
The optician will be able to remove the scratches or, if necessary, replace the sunglass lenses.
The professional can also suggest a cleaning spray for your sunglasses in case of future scratches.
Even small scratches on sunglasses should not be overlooked as they can affect your vision.
Don't hesitate to contact your Optical Center optician for any scratches that may have appeared on the lenses of your sunglasses.
